A sculpture park — ‘giant landscape with permanent collections of art.’ They’re outdoors, easily accessible & natural. And how good does it feel, to walk into your favorite park and greet a giant, abstract, stone work of art for free?
We take in art within the confines of galleries, museums or phones. But well manicured, outdoor expressions are nothing new. In fact our neighbors to the far east have been curating outdoor environments that stimulate the senses since the 7th century. And could we really talk about sculpture parks without mentioning the British & Stonehenge?
Science tells us time & time again; dark moods are bad for our health. According to the New York Times, shame, depression and anxiety are linked to heart disease, inflammation, cancer and premature death. On the contrary, positive feelings are good for us. So here’s to inspiration, awe, happiness & inter-connectivity. And long live those outdoor sculptures that make us double back.
