Are Vehicle Graphics Good Advertising?

There it is again. This is third time this week I’ve seen that pest control company’s car riding through the neighborhood. *Does online search for company.*

If you live anywhere besides the Amazonian jungle, this scenario has probably played out in your head. The Outdoor Advertising Association of America says that more than 95% of the US is reached by advertising targeting drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The returns can be staggering.

There are many applications for vehicle graphics; window clings, magnets, vinyl wraps, car toppers, etc. Wraps, which are printed directly to vinyl, can dominate an entire vehicle or only a portion, as to best fit your vehicle, due dates & budget. Vinyl wraps are permanent, but can be removed & changed along with your campaigns. And it’s quite possibly the most cost effective out-of-home advertising available, with the OAAA saying 1 vehicle can generate between 30 thousand and 80 thousand impressions/day based on where, how far & how long the car is driven.

Vinyl graphics typically last 3 to 5 years. Not long you say? A car or truck that travels state-to-state regularly can generate 16 million impressions per year according to vinyl manufacturer 3M. That’s 48 million impressions in 3 years, or 80 million impressions in 5 years. Those numbers indicate vehicle graphics are a good idea for a solo entrepreneur or a business with 2,000 fleet vehicles. When smaller businesses use vehicle graphics, it puts them on the same playing field as the big companies.

Here are a few ways to track the effectiveness of your vehicle graphics:

Use a special phone number, or call tracking, for your vehicles so you know what calls are a result of your effort.

Advertise a special offer and discount code only on the wrapped vehicles & log the data.

Create a vehicle-specific landing page on your website, and track that data. Keep the url simple, not too many characters — you want it to be easy to remember & view-able from a distance.
